Physiotherapy Services
Injury Rehabilitation
Injury rehabilitation is the heart of musculoskeletal physiotherapy. The most common body parts treated with injury rehabilitation at the clinic are;
- Neck
- Shoulder
- Back
- Hip
- Knee
- Ankle
It’s impossible to say exactly how much treatment an injury will need as there are so many factors to consider. Treatment timescales can range from anything between a single appointment up to weeks of physio.
Please book an initial assessment if you would like injury rehabilitation treatment. Existing patients will have to book an initial assessment if the injury has not been previously discussed with Kathryn at the clinic.
Persistent Pain Management
Persistent pain is pain that has been present for 12 weeks or longer which leads to changes within our nervous system. These changes make managing the pain more challenging.
Conditions associated with persistent pain including;
- Fibromyalgia
- Polymyalgia
- Inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis
Quite often chronic pain has a significant impact on people’s daily lives and can result in simple tasks becoming increasingly challenging
Kathryn’s biopsychosocial approach to physiotherapy treatment is key to helping persistent pain patients overcome their physical challenges, whether that’s bending down to pick up your children, walking laps of your local park or getting through a day of work without pain.
Deep Tissue Massage
Kathryn has also completed further qualifications to optimise her manual therapy skills completing a specialist diploma in deep tissue massage. Kathryn has used these techniques to treat a wide variety of patients with both sporting and non sporting backgrounds including;
- Celtic Dragons Netball
- Cardiff Blues Rugby
- Cardiff RFC
- Wales Hockey
Deep tissue massage can be a great treatment technique to facilitate rehabilitation. However, it’s rare that massage alone will provide the long term benefits we aim for at Kathryn Davies Physiotherapy. For this reason, all patients must book an initial assessment prior to massage treatment where Kathryn will complete a thorough assessment of your complaint and advise the best course of treatment going forwards.
Movement and Strength Analysis
Our movement and strength analysis screenings are for those who are not currently suffering from an injury. The appointment will closely look at the available movement and strength at and around each joint to find areas of weakness and/or reduced function.
If the assessment highlights any areas where range of movement, strength, stability or co ordination could be improved Kathryn will provide a detailed plan on how to work on these areas.
Strength analysis will be conducted using unilateral body weight exercises and a dynamometer.
